Proud of Kailash & Malala
Months back when the names for the Nobel Peace Prize recipients were announced, reactions of people of both the countries and outside varied. Most of us were happy and encouraged and at the same time, many had their own doubts on how this prize will help either of the countries or is it just irony stating itself.
These two individuals have strived hard for change. One of them has given a major part of his life to promise children of this country that they shall have a childhood and will go on to have a promising one. The other has begun her life with the promise to make education the right of every child so that they may have a bright future.
Kailash Satyrathi and Malala Yousafzay have struggled to work their way against child suppression and make it an issue visible to the masses. It is up to the masses to see clearly and make the correct choices.
Did The Nobel committee want to make a point by chosing a Hindu and a Muslim, an Indian and a Pakistani for the coveted prize? It is considered important that the two nations should join together in their struggle against extremism and for education. Alfred Nobel’s Will has a mention of fraternity between nations as one of the criteria for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The efforts of Mr. Satyarthi and Ms. Malala have largely contributed to the realization of this criterion. As nations to which these two individuals belong, we must strive to join in their struggle and remind ourselves each day that we have a huge responsibility to shoulder together.
Today, as they have been felicitated with this honor, we must be proud.
